Josephian skipper Sadeesh Jayawardene the soccerite turned cricketer

Captain of the College first eleven team of 2022/23 Right hand opening bat and wicket keeper of the side, Fifth year coloursman, Captain of the Colombo North team for the Prima Cup and , John Tarbet athlete and Member of the School under 12 and 13 football teams Sadeesh Abishek Jayawardene of St. Joseph’s College Colombo has brought honour and immense glory to his alma mater and his motherland with his deeds in the field of sports.

Sadeesh who hails from Kadawatha was admitted to St.Joseph’s College in 2009 In 2011 he participated in the school inter house sports meet and participated in 75 metres. Relays and in Long Jump. As an under 12 competitor he took part in the Junior John Tarbet meet in Long Jump and came up to Best Five. In addition he played for the under 12 and 13 School Football teams. When he was in grade three his Parents Shane Jayawardene and Damayanthi Jayawardene noticing that their son’s forte is cricket handed over their son to Mr.Ranjeeva of Ragama Cricket Academy. Then in the following year he was drafted to School Cricket Academy and he came under M.Kapila and D.Janaka.

In 2013 he was selected to the under 13 division three team and in his first year itself he passed the 200 run mark with a fifty and in his second year he collected 250 runs. With two half centuries and in his third year he passed the 300 run mark with a century and three fifties and in his final year scored 425 runs with two centuries and three fifties and he captained the team.

Then in his first year in the under 15 he got 120 runs in four outings with a fifty and in his second year captaining the team scored 525 runs with two centuries and three fifties and with these performances under his belt he was selected to the 30 member squad for the under 15 Tour of Malaysia and captained the Colombo North team in the Prima Cup

. As an under 15 player he was selected to the second eleven and first eleven cricket pools respectively and the Coach was Roger Wijesuriya. Playing in the second eleven he scored 900 runs with two centuries and seven fifties.

His first year in the first eleven team was in 2019/20 and got 365 runs with two fifties and in the following year in the One Day Tournament he got 264 runs with two fifties and in the Two Day Tournament in nine matches passed the 700 run mark with a double century and three centuries. Then in 2021/22 season playing in Limited OverTournament got 250 runs with two fifties and presently captaining the team in 4Limited Over matches he has collected 243 runs with one century and one fifty with a Bradsmanque Average of 120.0. He played in two Big Matches and led the team this year. In the 2020 Big Match Sadeesh and Dineth Jayakody put on 192 runs for the fifth wicket and erased the record held for 83 years and Dineth scored 122 runs with Sadeesh contributing 70 runs

He represented the Sri Lanka under 19 against Bangaladesh and England in Sri Lanka and Asia Cup in Dubai and the World Cup in West Indies. He set another record by scoring a century in the fourth innings in this years Big Match and it is a record for the Joe - Pete Series and he became the second highest scorer for Joes when he scored an unbeaten 207 runs versus Maliayadeva College and the highest run getter is Peter Hamer with 284 runs.
