Suspect arrested for robbing jewellery, mobile phone of girl

Mahavilachchiya Police arrested a suspect who robbed the gold jewellery and a mobile phone from his mistress after assaulting and injuring her on Wednesday.

According to Police, the suspect had committed the crime while he was travelling on a motorcycle ridden by the victim after he appeared before the Anuradhapura Court for the hearings of an ongoing case.

He had robbed three gold necklaces worth Rs.300,000, three pendants and the victim’s mobile phone and had fled the scene.

Following the incident, the victim was admitted to the Vilachchiya Hospital and was transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital, Police said.

The suspect is a resident of Pemaduwa, police said. Mahavilachchiya Police are investigating.
