Women’s cricketer Harini Perera does Princess of Wales proud

Eighteen year old fourth year all round cricketer, middle order left hand bat and right arm medium pace bowler who opens the attack and a safe fielder at any position, member of the Chilaw Marians Division One Cricket Team and member of the Girls under 19 tour of Visaka patnam, India for the Quadrangular Tournament Harini Nelikma Perera has brought honour and immense glory to her Alma Mater Princess o Wales’ College Moratuwa and the motherland with her deeds in the field of cricket.

Harini who hails from Moratuwa was born on 9th January 2004 and admitted to her present school in 2010 and when she was in the primary school she did not take any interest to sports but once she participated for the Inter House Athletic Meet and won places.

In the meantime her parents Samantha Perera and Shiromi Perera handed over their daughter to the school MIC for cricket Piyuminda Perera and the coach Mrs. Hirunika Fernando in 2016. During this period Cambrian lasses participating in Division Two and they beat Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya in the Schools Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and got promoted to Division One. They played a Big Match versus St. Anthony’s Girls School Panadura and Harini took a Hat Trick and carried away the Best Bowlers Award. Same year she was selected for the Under 19 Development Squad which consisted of 20 players and she represented Chilaw Marians too in the Girls Division One Tournament.

With all these performances under her belt she was selected for the Sri Lanka under 19 Girls Squad which toured Vishakapatnam India recently for a Quadrangular Tournament where two teams from India and a team from West Indies participated and this tour was a fine exposure for Harini and presently she is in the 25 member squad for the forthcoming Women’s Under 19 World Cup tour of South Africa early next year. Her Principal Mrs. Malini Samarakoon is very supportive for cricket at school and to keep this noble game alive.
