Fined for drinking alcohol in court

Two suspects who had been remanded for consuming alcohol in the premises of Padaviya Magistrate’s Court, within a distance where they were visible to the magistrate, were fined Rs. 2,000 each by the Kebithigollewa District Court, after they pleaded guilty to the offence.

The Magistrate strongly reprimanded the suspects and warned if such offences are committed again, the court will take strict action against the suspects.

Speaking to the court on behalf of the suspects, the lawyer stated that both the suspects are ready to plead guilty. Therefore, the lawyer requested the court to impose a minimum sentence on the suspects.
