Seventy one top police officers transferred

SDIGs, DIGs, SSPs, SPs and ASPs among them

Seventy one senior police officials including all Senior Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) of Police in charge of provinces except Senior DIG in charge  of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon, Senior DIG in charge of the North Western Province Lalith Pathinayake and Senior DIG in charge of the Southern Province Ajith Rohana have been given transfers by the IGP C. D. Wickremaratne.

These transfer notices have been issued with the signature of the IGP on being informed by the Secretary to Ministry of Defence considering emergency duties required subject to the covering approval of the National Police Commission.

Accordingly, Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena who was in charge of the Police Support Services has been transferred as the head of the Police Administration Division. Senior DIG in charge of the Northern Province Priyantha Weerasuriya has been transferred to the Central Province, while Senior DIG in charge of the Central Province Sanjeeva Dharmaratne has been appointed to the Sabaragamuwa Province, National Police Training Institute Senior DIG Sajeeva Medawatta has been appointed as the Assistant Services Chief. Also, Kithsiri Jayalath, Senior DIG in charge of the North Central Province, has been transferred to the Eastern Province, Rajitha Sri Daminda, the Senior DIG in charge of the Eastern Province, to the North Central Province, Acting Senior DIG Mahinda Gunaratne, Sabaragamuwa Province to the Northern Province, and Nuwan Wedasinghe, who was working as DIG of Galle, as the Acting Senior DIG of the Uva Province.

In addition, DIG in charge of child and women abuse prevention division, D.P. Chandrasiri has been transferred as the Executive Director of the National Police Training Institute and DIG of

the Police Narcotics Bureau Upali Jayasinghe has been appointed to Nuwara Eliya, while

Ratnapura District Acting DIG J.S. Weerasekera has been put in charge of the Child and Women Abuse Prevention Division and Acting DIG Priyantha Liyanage, who is in charge of the Crime

Division, has also been transferred as the head of the Narcotics Bureau.

Meanwhile, six Senior Superintendents of Police have been appointed as Acting DIGs and these personnel have been appointed to new areas.

Accordingly, the Senior Superintendent of Police M.R.M. Seneviratne who was in charge of the parliamentary division has been transferred as Acting DIG Jaffna and Senior Superintendent of Police J.P.D. Jayasinghe, who was serving as Director of Police Supplies, has been appointed as Acting DIG Ratnapura, while Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of Colombo Central

Division Roshan Dias has been appointed to the position of Acting DIG of Western Provincial Crime Division, and Director of Environment Division SSP Roshan Rajapaksa has been transferred to the position of Acting DIG of Kegalle. Further, Jagath Fonseka, who was serving

as the Director of the Sports Offenses Investigation Division attached to Police Headquarters, has been appointed as the Acting DIG of the Maritime and Tourism Division, and Udith Liyanage, the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Jaffna Division, has been appointed as the

Acting DIG of Galle.

Apart from these transfers, 17 Senior Superintendents of Police, 06 acting Senior Superintendents of Police, 13 Superintendents of Police, another 08 Superintendents of Police,

19 Assistant Superintendents of Police and 02 female Assistant Superintendents of Police have been transferred. These transfer orders were issued on January 3 and to be implemented with immediate effect.
