UAE seeks investment opportunities in Eastern Province

A special meeting between Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to Sri Lanka Khaled Masser Sulaiman Al Ameri was held on Monday (13) afternoon at the Governor's Office in Trincomalee.

They discussed introducing investment opportunities in the Eastern Province to the UAE.

The Ambassador requested a branch of the Sri Lankan Chamber of Commerce be set up through the Sri Lankan Embassy in the country and set up a system to inform investors in the UAE in this regard.

They also discussed giving priority to tourism and organic agriculture. The Ambassador requested the Governor to launch promotional programmes in the UAE tourism zones to promote Sri Lanka's tourism industry.

The Governor said that the Government will be informed about it very soon. Meanwhile, the UAE has started a special programme this year to plant 10 million mangrove saplings in many e sea areas of the country by 2030 and the sea screen of the Eastern Province will be included in this programme.

The Governor also made a request for an investor for a super market complex and a luxury hotel complex.

At the end of the meeting, souvenirs were exchange between the Ambassador and the Governor.

Provincial Chief Secretary R.M.P.S. Ratnayake and Acting Assistant Secretary to the Governor A.G. Devendran were present.
