Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala will take on home town rivals Sir John Kotelawala M.V Kurunegala in their 12 th ‘Battle of the Greens’ encounter at the Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala on April 1 beginning at 9.30 a m. This will be a limited overs game this time.
Both Wayamba Royal College and Sir John Kotealawala M.V Kurunegala played in the division III Tier A category of the All Island Inter school under 19 Cricket Tournament and fared well this season. Both teams posted three wins each from seven games after playing in separate groups.
Fifth year player Kasun Madhusanka captain’s the Sir John Kotealawala side with Channa Pradeep as his deputy. Madhusanka has scored 276 runs this season one fifty (78* vs Nugawela Central) and also captured 10 wickets while Pradeep has 258 runs with 102 vs Nugawela Central as his best Mohamed Jazil (205) and Chamath Janandana (292) are the other leading run getters of the team.
Gimhan Alahakoon is the leading wicket taker with 34 wickets with a best of 7/38 vs Al Azhar College, Akurana. Bhagya Ishan also took 20 wickets with a best of 5/56 against Sri Sumangala College,Kandy after scoring an unbeaten 50 in the same match.
Wayamba Royal will be led by all rounder S.Pradeepan with Sithara Deshan as his deputy. They fared well this season by posting three wins in the all island tournament.
