UNP to celebrate May Day at Sugathadasa Satdium - Akila

United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam yesterday said that the UNP will celebrate May Day at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium this year under theme “Jayagamu”.

Speaking at a press conference held at the UNP Headquarters, Sirikotha yesterday, Kariyawasam said that Jathika Seva Sangamaya, the Youth Front and the Women’s Front will participate in the May Day celebration.

He said that children’s education has broken down to some extent. “We were unable to send a few dollars to a student who is studying overseas,”he added. Kariywasam said the President is moving the country forward and solving these problems step by step.

“The energy crisis has been resolved. Students who go overseas can get dollars without any shortages”, he added.

At such a time leaders of the opposition should help the country to move forward. They have to help the country if they really care about the people. It is a question why it is not possible to come to an agreement at this moment when there are so many problems.

It is a question as to why it is not possible to come to an agreement at this moment when there are so many problems. JVP as well as MPs who worked together with us in Parliament and those who held ministerial posts have a duty to support the President at this moment, he said.

It can be seen that the President is moving forward in solving the problems of this country, whether he receives the support or not. That is why people support some progressive decisions. No matter what professional rights we talk about on May Day, if the country does not move forward.

Sometime ago, slogans against restructuring may be good.People have now understood that the government is not good for business. When the government does business, their corruption is high. Profits are low. What we should do is to hand over business to the private sector as much as possible, develop facilities and get government revenue through taxes.

The problems of education should be solved. This is a country where there was no money to print the question paper in the Western Province during COVID. When such a country is struggling once again, Lecturer’s Association need to see this fairly.
