Long jumper Sarangi to compete in Japan meet

Sri Lankan long jump record holder Sarangi Silva will leave today for Japan for the Seiko Golden Grand Prix meet which will be held at International Stadium , Yokohama in Japan on May 21 .

The 26 year old National number one long jumper who had a 6.65 m record jump last year 2022 February is expected to improve her ranking to go forward and it’s going to be a tough challenge but Sarangi is ready to take up this challenge said her personal coach Y.K Kularatne who is also the National Head coach.

When Daily News contacted Sarangi yesterday she said I went on Japanese tour with my own money while I am very keen to go there to improve my ranking points . I am very close to the Asian Games qualification standard and I will do my best jump as i have good chance to take part in next Asian Games in September in China.

Sarangi who is employed at Seylan Bank said her dedication and commitment is very high while coach Y.K Kularatne gives excellent support to reach higher level from this event . Not like running events we have six jump attempts and we have to focus seriously to get the best result . I know Japan climate is more cool and I have adjust to compete in this meet while I have plan to get one day training on May 19 and 20 my rest day before the competition on May 21.

Sarangi Silva the product from Sri Sumangala Balika Panadura has been selected to take part at the Asian Athletic championship and she is a medal prospect while her aim is to get Asian Games qualification. This Japan meet is very vital for me and I hope to compete in European meets in future to improve my ranking and I am ready to go on these tours added Sarangi Silva.

I knew what's the important about International exposure when I wan only 16 years old i won fifth place at Asian Junior meet and that was my first international event. in 2016 i won the South Asian Games bronze medal in India . following year in 2017 won bronze a the Brunei open athletic meet and once again bronze at Thailand open meet. I also won gold medal at EAP meet in Geneva, Switzerland last year in 6.33m.

I have an idea to go for world championships and my task is to improve ranking and this type of meet is very vital to go forward said Sarangi Silva.
