Duranka Silva a promising cricketer from Sri Sumangala

Fourth year player, left hand bat, and right arm off spinner who played for the school under 13, 15, 17 and 19 teams, under 15 captain, member of the 2021/22 division two limited over champion teams, Kalutara District under 15 Zone Two player and currently the Kalutara District under 19 Zone Two player Duranka Nethsara Silva has brought honour and immence glory to Sri Sumangala, Panadura with his deeds in the field of cricket.

Duranka who hails from Nalluruwa Panadura was born on 28 th March 2006 and in 2020 he was appointed as the under 15 division one captain and collected 498 runs with six fifties including 93 runs against Panadura Johnians in 27 balls and in the following year due to Coronavirus there was no cricket and in the next year playing in under 17 got 250 runs with a fifty in four outings.

As an under 15 player he was selected for the first eleven team in 2021 and representing in three matches he collected 100 runs and playing in their Big Match against their arch rivals Moratu Vidyalaya he won the Best Batsman Award. In 2022 Sumangalians were the unbeaten Champions of the under 19 division two Tier “A” Tournament and in the limited over in eight matches he scored 200 runs and in the same year they clinched the two day tournament and he got the Best Batsman Award for the one day tournament.

In 2023 in the one day tournament he scored 300 runs with 2 fifties and in the Big Match with a fifty he carried away the Best Batsman Award. So far he has played in three Big matches and two One Dayers versus Moratu Vidyalaya and he has another two seasons in hand. In the 2023 two day games he scored 936 runs with a century against Dewananda and 221 runs versus Tissa Vidyalaya Kalutara. Altogether in the just concluded cricket season he has collected a total of 1236 runs in both formats.
