Neelagiri sacred relics taken to Homagama Poson Zone today

A special pooja was held at the National Museum for the Sacred Relics found from the excavation of the Neelagiri Dagaba in Lahugala Ampara, with the participation of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena. The members of the Maha Sangha in the Homagama electorate and family members of Minister Dr Bandula Gunawardena also participated in this religious ceremony.

This special pooja was held for the sacred relics before taking them to the Dharma Rashmi Poson Zone in Pitipana, Homagama for public exposition.The Dharma Rashmi Poson zone which begins from today, is the biggest Poson Zone to be held in the Colombo district.

These sacred relics will be taken to Homagama in a procession today at 8.30 a.m.The sacred relics will be taken to the Sugathabimbarama temple by a tusker belonging to the Sri Dalagamaligawa from Homagama.

They will be placed at the temple premises for the public exposition after midday pooja. Accordingly the public can venerate the sacred relics on June 3 to 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 midnight. For three years, the public had not had an opportunity to venerate the Nilgiri sacred relics. However, according to the Cabinet’s decision, the Neelagiri sacred relics are only taken to the places with the patronage of the state.These sacred relics are exhibited at the Sugathabimbaramaya temple in Homagama with the special permission of the Commissioner General of Archaeology.

These sacred relics were found in the Nilgiri Maha Seya which is considered to be the second largest Dagaba in the Ampara district.

Deputy Director of Education Ven.Madowita Vajirabuddhi Thera, Chief Incumbent of Uththaramadhipathi in Pitipana, Homagama Ven.Maduluwawe Dhammika Thera, Ven.Kinigoda Sudassi Thera of Sugathabimbaramaya were also present.
