The Police yesterday reported facts to the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court regarding the incident where a group of people including Parliamentarian Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam, behaved in an unruly manner while obstructing the duties of two Police officers near the GCE Ordinary level Examination Coordinating Centre at the Maradankerni Thalayadi Roman Catholic College recently.
The Police reported to the Court that the MP and others with him had obstructed their duty. The Court ordered the Police to detain and question two people including Ponnambalam’s Party Organizer for the Vadamarachchi East Electorate until June 7. However, Ponnambalam was not present in Court yesterday.
Earlier, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles too had called a report from the Police regarding this incident. A video of Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam trying to attack Police officers and behaving violently has been uploaded on social media networks.
The Police mentioned that around 30 people, including the MP, had gathered near the Examination Co-ordination Centre on Friday.
