A woman and two other individuals who had come to hunt animals in Gomadale area within the Victoria Randenigala Rantambe Reserve were arrested by officials of the Keerthi Bandarapura
Wildlife Office on June 23. The Wildlife Conservation Department states that this is the first time that a woman hunter has been arrested by Wildlife officers.
This group who had arrived in an Isuzu type lorry had with them a 12-bore firearm, electric torches, knives used for cutting meat, and SG ammunition. Subsequent to the suspects being produced at the Walapane Magistrate’s Court surety bail of Rs.one million each had been ordered.
This case has been ordered to be called up for hearing again on October 3.
