Free entrance for children to Dehiwala Zoo today

To mark National Zoological Dept’s 87th anniversary

Today (03), children under 12 years of age have the opportunity to visit the Dehiwala National Zoo, free of charge.

This is to coincide with the 87th anniversary of the National Zoological Department, which falls today. Also, the opening ceremony of the 87th celebration of the Department will be held at 9 a.m. today (03) at the Dehiwala National Zoo under the patronage of the Minister of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

The opening of the newly built ‘Sinha Arana’ of the Dehiwala Zoo, the presentation of commemorative gifts to the 10 oldest employees of the National Zoo, and many other programmes have been organised on that day. Thilak Prepamakantha, Director General of the Zoological Department, says that visitors will have the opportunity to engage in fun activities throughout the day.

Pretamakantha says that in the coming days, the work will begin on the establishing of a Butterfly Garden for the children receiving treatment at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital and a Butterfly Garden at the Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya.
