Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said that there is no benefit from the bills brought in haste and that both local and traditional medical fields should be protected. He was speaking when a group of Ayurvedic and traditional practitioners met him at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo yesterday (03) morning to discuss issues related to the Ayurvedic medical service.
He further said that the Government is trying to completely destroy the country’s traditional medicine sector through a new Ayurveda Amendment Act.
He also said that he admits that the field of Ayurvedic medicine needs a legal framework, but that a legal framework should be prepared to suit both Ayurvedic medicine and traditional medicine sub-fields.
Instead of bringing these kinds of bills in haste, what should be done is to hold a formal discussion on this matter together with the Minister of Health and the Minister of Local Medicine and properly understand the situation.
