U. R. de Silva has been elected as the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka after he secured a convincing majority over the closest rival Anura Meddegoda.
According to the latest results, U. R. de Silva had polled 2979 votes while Anura Meddegoda has polled 2594 votes. De Silva has been declared the winner with a majority of 385 votes.
The third candidate secured only 98 votes. Meanwhile, the President-elect and the incumbent President Jeff Alagaratnam met last evening to discuss plans for transition.
