Five students attached to a leading school in Mihintale were arrested on suspicion by the Anuradhapura Police, while they were engaged in a discussion at a paddy field near the Puliyankulama level crossing near the Anuradhapura, Jaffna junction, on September 10.
Earlier, they had sped past a police checkpoint in their three-wheeler, ignorning a half order and Police believe that they were planning a robbery. Police said the student who drove the three-wheeler was under 16 years and had no valid driving licence and the three-wheeler had no revenue licence either.
The five students were later released after being produced at the police station and the three-wheeler was released to its rightful owner who is an officiating priest a in a devalaya. Police said legal action would be taken against the Kapuwa.
Investigations are continuing.
