Pompeo drops Colombo from Asia tour

United States’ Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo, who was originally scheduled to touch Colombo on his swing through Asia later this month, has now dropped Sri Lanka from his itinerary due to his crowded schedule. The Secretary of State is “..unable to visit Sri Lanka as previously announced due to unavoidable scheduling conflicts,” the US embassy in Colombo said.

The embassy statement added: “..Secretary Pompeo regrets that he is no longer able to visit Colombo at this time. He hopes to travel to Sri Lanka at a later date to underscore our strong partnership with Sri Lanka..”.

According to the US State Department’s official June 24-30th itinerary for Pompeo, the Secretary of State will first visit Delhi and then Japan, where he accompanies US President Donald Trump at the forthcoming Group of 20 summit of top industrial nations. He will then accompany President Trump in a visit to South Korea.
