Mahamaya’s Devindu wins All Island weightlifting contest

The weightlifting team of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy did well to win first place in one weight class and two third places as debutants at the recently concluded All Island Schools Weightlifting contest organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Society held at the Rajagiriya MV Weightlifting centre, Aranayake.

Devindu Dissanayake won the 81kg weight class while Chethana Dissanayake and Sethmini Epitawela secured third place in the 49kg and 76kg weight classes respectively.

The weightlifting team is coached by Srimali Samarakoon who won a silver medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games held in Samoa in 2015.
