New Elpitiya PS members not gazetted

UPFA list not finalised yet:

The Gazette notification containing the names of elected members of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha has not been published yet.

The long delay in publishing the respective gazette notification is because the list of names of councillors elected from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has not been submitted to the Election Commission so far, a Galle District Deputy Election Commissioner’s office official told the media.

At the recently concluded Local Government Election held for Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha on October 11, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) won 17 slots in the council while United National Party (UNP) secured seven councillors. Accordingly United People’s Freedom Alliance) UPFA) obtained three seats and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) got two members elected making a total of 29 members.

Under the present electoral system the members elected under preferential representation system should be notified to the Election Commission by the respective party or alliance. However the UPFA list has not been received by the commission yet, causing the delay in publishing the gazette the official further said.
