Perform tasks within a year or step down

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ordered the Heads of all State Corporations and Statutory Bodies to take responsibility and step down from their positions given that they fail to show progress in their respective institutes during a period of twelve months, political sources said.

“Considering that the said head of institutes have been selected by a Committee of Experts, a period of one year will be enough for them to show progress,” the President has observed.

Reversing the usual practice of selecting Heads for State Corporations and Statutory Bodies as proposed by the respective ministers, President Rajapaksa appointed a Committee of Experts to select suitable persons for these positions.

Heads have been appointed to most of the State Corporations and Statutory Bodies at present.

The rest of the vacancies will be filled by the end of next month,” it was reported.
