Passenger Transport Management & Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has directed Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) officials to inspect all luxury buses running on the Southern Expressway. The order was given with regard to the recent incident in which a luxury bus plying on the Southern Expressway was destroyed in a fire near Imaduwa in Kokmaduwa, owing to a mechanical issue.
The bus, which belongs to the Ambalantota bus depot, had been plying from the Makumbura Multimodal Centre in Kottawa to Hambantota.
The SLTB recently deployed 16 luxury buses to run from Colombo Fort, to Hambantota, Ambalantota, Tissamaharama, Embilipitiya, Kataragama, and Tangalle.
The minster told the SLTB officials to examine the remaining 15 buses immediately.
