Cyclist dies in collision

A cyclist had died in a collision with a luxury bus carrying a group of people who arrived from foreign countries for quarantine in Jaffna.

The victim was admitted to the Chavakachcheri Hospital in Jaffna with serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries, Police said.

The accident had occurred near the Mattuvil Panrittalaivu Amman Kovil in Jaffna on June 9 evening. The bus was carrying the passengers from Colombo to Jaffna for quarantine.

The people of the area tried to attack the bus driver after the accident.

The Police quelled the situation and later arrested the driver.

The victim was identified as Wattan Velayudam, 70, of Mattuvil Chandrapuram, Jaffna.
