Constructing houses for those who became homeless during the conflict between the Armed Forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the Eastern part of Sri Lanka is in progress in the Alayadivembu Divisional Secretariat area by the Rehabilitation Ministry despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fifty five housing units at a cost of Rs.1 million each and 24 units to at a cost of Rs. 6 million each in the remote areas of Alayadivembu Divisional Secretariat area will be constructed on the advices of Divisional Secretary P. Pabakaran.

A ceremony was held to mark the inauguration of the housing scheme by initiating work on a housing unit for a family with an elderly woman and her daughter in Mahasakthi Gramam in the Alayadivembu DS Division with Hindu rituals.

Brigade Commanding Officer 241 Brigadier W.M. Janaka Wimalaratna, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest inaugurated the project by laying the foundation stone.

Army Personnel are constructing the housing Unit as the owner of the house is an old woman without any family support.
