Delta variant now dominant COVID strain in EP

Ninety-four percent of people in Eastern Province have been affected by the Delta variant of Coronavirus and 6 percent have been affected by the Alpha variant virus.

The Sinopharm vaccine is given very effectively for the Delta virus said Director of Health Service Eastern Province Dr.A.R.M. Thowfeek.

Of the 123 specimens which were sent to Sri Jayawardenapura University, 94 have been found as Delta positive and four have been found as Alpha positive.

Health authorities state that the spread of the virus can be controlled by the public by adopting strict health conditions and they request people not to leave their homes without a valid purpose. Even those staying at home should follow the health guidelines.
