State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama stated that the Government was contemplating importing LP gas as a solution to the gas shortage.
He said this decision is being contemplated as issues within business enterprises engaged in gas distribution too have contributed to the gas shortage.
Addressing a press briefing at Kandy, he said that the Ministry of Trade will implement the relevant programme this year if necessary. Accordingly, a programme is underway to buy LP gas companies and bring them together. He emphasized that some people are working to achieve their business goals by fishing in troubled waters with the aim of expanding their businesses, and as a result, the Government is criticized by the people.
He said that if a person or group deliberately oppresses the people for business purposes, the Government should intervene and stand up for the people, and it will be effective in the future.
