Church associate carried grenade - Police

It has been confirmed that the hand grenade found at the All Saint's Church in Borella on Tuesday had been kept there by a 56 year old man who had been associated with the Church for about 16 years.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that the suspect had been working in the church permanently for the past nine months. Four suspects were arrested on Tuesday after the incident was reported. SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that facts have been reported to court regarding a 13 year old child who was used in this incident.

“The Borella Police OIC had commenced investigations on the hand grenade that was found placed on a statue at the All Saints Church in Borella. The hand grenade had been placed with matches and joss-sticks held onto it with rubber bands and cellotape in a manner that it would explode when ignited.Four persons were arrested on suspicion and upon interrogation it was revealed that a 56-year-old person working at the church had placed the device there.
