Fuel distribution, an essential service

A special gazette notification has been issued making the supply or distribution of petroleum products and fuel an essential service.

The gazette notification issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has also extended the previous call to make all power supply services an essential service.

The gazette also declares as essential services all service, work or labour, of any description whatsoever, necessary or required to be done in connection with the maintenance, and the reception, care feeding and treatment, of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries, and other similar institution.

Earlier a gazette notification issued on June 8 made electricity supply and hospital services an essential service.
