Rise of Covid once again

Immunity of people who have taken vaccines may have decreased

Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, yesterday said that the spread of the Covid-19 virus again may be due to the fact that the immunity of the people who have received the earlier doses of the vaccine has decreased.

He said it is important for people to get vaccinated to get the anti-Covid immunity again. He also said that a person can be infected with the virus even after receiving the first and second booster doses.

However, Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said that by taking the anti-Covid vaccine, the complications will be reduced and there will be no increase in the complications and this will prevent the loss of life. He also stated that there should be no fear of getting infected with the virus if they have been vaccinated.

Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said that people who have received the first and second doses of the anti-Covid but did not receive booster doses may experience complications if they are infected with the virus.

He also said that it has been about a year since the first and second anti-Covid vaccines were given and the immunity of those vaccines would have decreased by now.The Epidemiology Department states that 8,064,094 of the population of Sri Lanka have taken the first booster dose against Covid and 99,392 have taken the second booster dose against Covid.
