The Municipal Coroner of Kurunegala has ordered the Municipal Commissioner and Kurunegala Municipal Council officials to provide solutions to the unprotected culverts and drain system in the area immediately.
The order was issued by the Municipal Coroner in the wake of the death of a 14-year-old school student who was trapped in a storm drain which was overflowing at the Wehera area in Kurunegala.
It has also been emphasized that police and other officials have a great responsibility to ensure the safety of thousands of school students using the roads. Also the Coroner was of the view that this tragic death has occurred due to the irregular constructions being carried out in the area. Therefore, the authorities must pay their attention in this regard, he said.
The post mortem into the death of the school boy was conducted by JMO of Kurunegala teaching hospital N.A.C.P.Chaminda.
