Accept any certified copy of birth, marriage or death certificates - Registrar General

The Registrar General’s Department has informed government institutions to accept any certified copies of birth, marriage or death certificates issued by the Registrar General as valid regardless of their issuing date.

Issuing a circular in this regard, Registrar General P.S.P. Abeywardane said that it has been observed that some of the government institutions have made it compulsory for the public to present a certified copy of these certificates which were issued within a period of six months from the date of obtaining the service. The Department has informed the Education and Foreign Affairs Ministries, the Department of Registration Persons and the Immigration and Emigration Department to accept any certified copy of these certificates as valid regardless of their issuing date.
