Pera to increase counselling after suicides

The Management of the Peradeniya University has decided to expand psychological counselling programmes after three students of Peradeniya University committed suicide in the past five months.

Out of these, two students had written letters stating the reasons before committing suicide and it was revealed that they were suffering from severe stress.

It has now been recognized that anxiety, loneliness, exam phobia, relationship problems, mental stress have caused these suicides.

The counseling service centre was opened last August after a final year Engineering Faculty student hanged himself in the hostel.
