Requesting that ownership of land where ‘Lake House’ building is located be given to same company

Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardane yesterday said that he has submitted a Cabinet Paper requesting that the ownership of the land where the ‘Lake House’ building is located be given to the same company  as the lease term of the land is about to expire.

“The land where Lake House building is established had been obtained by its founder D.R. Wijewardene on a 99 year lease. The lease is going to expire. By giving the ownership of the land to ‘Lake House’ held by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, its asset base and value will grow further” the Minister said while responding to a question by Chaminda Wijesiri MP in Parliament.

Dr. Gunawardane also said there was never any plans to privatize ‘Lake House’ or sell it to a foreign entity either during the previous Government under President Mahinda Rajapaksa or under the present Government.

“The land in front of the Lake House building which belongs to the Urban Development Authority will accordingly be developed by the UDA,” Dr. Gunawardena noted.
