Gunaratnam willing to give up Australian citizenship

Leader of the Frontline Socialist Party Kumar Gunaratnam who was released from the Anuradhapura prison this morning after serving a year-long sentence, said he was willing to give up his Australian citizenship.

“I will cancel my Australian citizenship when government confirms my Sri Lankan citizenship, Gunaratnam told reporters after his release.

Gunaratnam was sentenced by the Kegalle Magistrate to a year in prison for violating Immigration law, after failing to leave Sri Lanka after his 30-day tourist visa expired.
