Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered yesterday (5) to impose a travel ban on a company director who defrauded
the New Rathna Rice Company of Rs.16 million promising to supply fertilizer.
The Magistrate ordered that the matter be reported to the Immigration Controller and gave permission to the Colombo Crime Division to check the bank accounts of the suspected director. The Magistrate considered the request made by the Colombo Crimes Division and made this order. A person named Hettiarachchige Asanka Abeywardena who is a director of Iresha Trading was banned from travelling abroad.
Sub-Inspector Asanka, who gave evidence to the court on behalf of the Colombo Crime Division, said that this fraud had been committed by promising to supply chemical fertilizer in last June. He informed court that a comprehensive investigation has been started regarding the incident and more suspects are to be arrested.
The Magistrate ordered to investigate the incident and inform the court.
