Monk killed in elephant attack in Somavathiya

Polonnaruwa Pulastipura Police say that a monk who had travelled from Dompe to Somavathiya has died due to a wild elephant attack yesterday (5) near the Somavathiya wildlife office. It is reported that the deceased monk is between 40 to 50 and was living in a temple in the Dompe area.

He travelled to Sungawila by bus and from there walked to the Somavathiya shrine about two days ago. Then, yesterday (5), he was walking back towards Sungawila from the Somavathiya shrine when he was attacked by a wild elephant at about 3.45 am near the Somavathiya wildlife office.
